Youth Olympic Games

Yay I'm so proud of Singapore! *waves Singapore flag*

Today's the closing ceremony and I saw this on facebook:
Youth Olympic Games Hey Yog fans! We gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night...

I think only those involved would get the joke. The yog venues kept playing this song by the black eyed peas. Haha.

Shall blog about the YOG over the weekend. Whee!

Bizarro dream

I had a really bizarre dream last night/this morning. I can't really remember everything now but I remember waking up and thinking about the dreams and that eventually led to thinking about Inception. Yep.. I wonder when I will stop having Inception being the destination of my train of thoughts when I think about my dreams.

I was reading some articles online and I saw this article about JG-L crashing his bicycle into a cab while filming and having a bloody mess on his arm. Have you ever seen anybody so happy to be needing 31 stitches?

Went and checked out his tweets (of course I'm following him. haha.) which had a link to the pictures and a video he took. Looking at his delighted face you would think the blood and wound were just make-up. He has a ridiculously cute smile. =P

Wanna see a lot of my blood? 31 stitches today. #PremiumRush is gonna be awesome :oD (caution gore) http://tumblr.com/x6denkdgp

Happy weekend

Tadaa! I went for the YOG opening rehearsal and it was great! The memory is a little foggy now but I recall being very excited for YOG to come. =) We weren't supposed to take photos and videos so as not to spoil the surprise for everybody so I was very obedient and didn't bring my camera, which I very much regret! Damn! There were several people in the audience who did take pictures and videos. Hopefully they wouldn't post them on the internet before 14 August, which is the actual opening. I don't think anybody reads my blog but I still shouldn't divulge anything. Some parts were quite impressive and surprising but I think the fact that we are a small country did show because the stage kinda looked a little empty, like we didn't have enough performers to fill the stage. Hmm.. But! Great things come in small packages. Haha..

And the second thing that made me very happy was Inception! Yay I finally watched it... I realised that Saturday morning is a very good time to watch movies alone. =P The show was at 1030 and I only arrived there at 1030 to buy my tickets and there was a rather long queue. Luckily the show didn't start on time. I checked the seating online the night before and there were plenty of seats left but when I bought the tickets there were only about 4 rows left in the centre. I saw a few people going in right after buying tickets too but I think I was probably one of the last, which is great because nobody sat in front or beside me. Yay. I find it very distracting when people's phones light up beside me in the middle of the movie.

Anyways, Inception is really good! And "Arthur" (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is super shuai. I thought he was very cute when (500) Days of Summer was released but he was really very shuai in Inception. Can't really think of an English that sufficiently conveys the meaning of shuai.. Sharp? Suave? And I didn't realise he resembled Heath Ledger so much. They look alike but still can tell they are not the same. But both are very shuai. =)

Because of my erm, slight obsession, I checked out what JG-L had acted in. He was a child actor, acted in Third Rock from the Sun, which I think I did watch a few episodes of but didn't have any impression of his character. I only remembered the old guy. Youtube blocked some episodes from non-American users so I couldn't watch much of it. But he was a rather cute teenager then too.

And then I watched 10 Things I Hate About You which stars both Heath Ledger and JG-L! I watched that long time ago because I studied Taming of the Shrew in school and the movie is an adaptation of that. It's kinda surreal seeing them acting against each other knowing how much he looks like him now. JG-L was still teenage-looking so they didn't look that much alike. But they were both cute in the movie. And the movie is really quite good too.

Anyways, I really enjoyed Inception and I know many people do too. I was first interested in the movie for the actors in it - Ellen Page, Leo Dicap, Cillian Murphy etc. Kinda weird seeing Cillian Murphy play a good guy for a change. Ha. Was kinda happy Ellen Page played an architecture student. =P And that she got to kiss the guy who looks like Heath Ledger. Haha. (Read that Heath Ledger wanted her in the first movie he was going to direct.) I think she's a good actor and I'm happy for her that she got to be a part of this great movie.

Sadly, the weekend is ending. =( And I actually had several things that I should have done. Oops. Ciao!

Sweet Sixteen =P

Ah, sounds of thunder. I hope it pours soon. Heh. The other afternoon at work thunder kept booming so violently that I could feel the vibrations. I wonder if anything was struck down. Our building is really oooold..

Speaking of old.. We went to Timbre on my birthday and the band was loud and great. Heh. So much better than my previous experience at Timbre. Although my grasshopper tasted like medicine.. Raj always drinks it in The Big Bang Theory so was wondering what it tastes like. I like Sheldon's Shirley Temple better.

Anyways, the band was EIC and I'm quite sure I've seen one of the lead singers on TV before. Can't remember in what programme though. Both lead singers were funny and entertaining. I shall keep the only negative comment about the band to myself. Ha..

Somebody at our table suggested we request for Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend. Heh. It was the first request the lead singer saw after their break and they were like err.. He just did a little of "Hey hey you you" to patronise us. Ha.. It was very funny. And it led to other people making ridiculous requests too. I suggested requesting Taylor Swift and Jonas Brothers. Another table with a birthday girl requested for Lady Gaga and the singers seemed a bit uneasy because they weren't sure if all the requests were just in jest or were serious requests. Haha.. The lead singer was half apologising that the requests weren't in their repertoire and told us not to request any more girls' songs, "no Taylor Swift". Heh. We didn't actually request that. Oh yah in the end they succumbed and sang a boy band song. So funny.. Next time shall request Adam Lambert. He's the gayest male singer now right? Oo, Beatles! I wonder if they can go that high. I forgot which song they sang and he could sing damn fast! He just rattled on rapidly. Very impressed. Kinda sounded a little like Tamil to me at some point though..

When we left we could still hear the band from quite far away. Maybe because the area was quite deserted so they could have the music much louder. Me like me music LOUD. =)

Survivor: Heroes vs Villians

Most exciting tribal council yet! *Clapclapclap!* I'm so So glad JT didn't turn eeky and revolting like Ozzy did the second time around. He did make a conscious decision to not be the nice guy this time but in the end he still chose to do the right thing, in my opinion, because I absolutely can't stand Cirie. Why in the world is she in the Heroes camp?? I can't remember what Candice did in her season and have no idea why I'm a fan of hers on the Survivor website but I clearly remember disliking Cirie.

Picking off the good players, which is the strategy for physically weaker players like Cirie, and having to watch crappy players sucking in challenges is just BAD TV. The challenges are my favourite part of the show. I remember one time two people were competing to start a fire first and they took HOURS. It was so painful to watch that it was funny. Ha.. But seriously, I think it's great that some players have so much regard for the show that they really think the good players should go the distance. Most of them are the good players though so it's in their interests anyway..

So glad Cirie's gone! Yay! I hope this is an omen for good things to come in the weekend!

TOTO

So did anybody win anything? I'm impressed that Singapore Pools even puts where the winning tickets were bought on their website.

Of the 5 group 1 winners, each winning $2,002,423, 2 were quickpick system 7, 1 quickpick system 10 (ahem..), 1 system 8 entry, and a lucky fellow only bought ordinary quickpick! S/he might have bought a lot though.

I haven't checked my numbers but only 1 number looks familiar to me so I don't think I won anything. I only bought $2 anyway. Haha..

Diet tip

I was feeling hungry until I watched this clip on this blog. And then I wanted to puke. I was puking the whole boxing day morning so I'm familiar with that feeling.

Please don't watch this while eating. If you can eat while watching this then you are gross!

Random post

Haven't blogged in a long while. Oops. Anyway I'm thinking of getting an ipod touch and the online apple shop offers free engraving so I have to think of what to engrave on it. Maximum 2 lines and I didn't bother to count how many characters per line. Too few, in my opinion..

Since my current obsession is Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, I will most probably engrave one of his quotes. He is so funny and so cute. Ha..

I'm not crazy
My mother had me tested

Ah gravity,
thou art a heartless bitch

I'm Batman!
SSHHH!...

No one calls me "Moonpie"
but Mee-Maw.

BAZINGA!

Aaand...other quotes that I like:

Sheldon: STOP IT BOTH OF YOU! All this fighting, I might as well be back with my parents!
*Imitating his Mom* Dammit George! I told you if you didn't quit drinking I would leave you!
*Imitating his Dad* Well, I guess that makes you a liar, because I'm drunk as hell and you are still here!
*Imitating his Mom* Stop yelling, you're making Sheldon cry!
*Imitating his Dad* I'll tell you what is making Sheldon cry, that I let you name him SHELDON!

Sheldon: Given the reaction to my costume, this party is a scathing indictment of the American educational system.
Kurt: You're a zebra, right?
Sheldon: (aside, to Leonard) Yet another child left behind ...

Leonard: You are not Isaac Newton.
Sheldon: No, no, that's true. Gravity would have been apparent to me without the apple.

Sheldon to Penny: Apparently I'm in some kind of relationship and you seem to be an expert at ending them.... I see man after man leaving this apartment, never to return.

Sheldon: Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock. It's very simple. Look -- scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors.

Sheldon: Why are you crying?
Penny: Because I'm stupid!
Sheldon: That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.

Sheldon: Hulk sad!

Soft kitty!

Soft kitty, warm kitty,
Little ball of fur.

Happy kitty, Sleepy kitty,
Purr, purr, purr...

Merry Christmas you filthy animal(s)

and a Happy New Year.

Bleah, christmas is ruined because Chappers is leaving Radio 1! It was announced on their christmas eve show and I only found out after I got home and logged on to fb last night. I've only just started listening to the show this July but I really like his grumpiness. Because I like to scold people and be miserable myself. Ha.. Ahh I'm so sad! He's been on Radio 1 for 10.5 years but I've only heard him for half a year! Boo... He's moving on to better things that he loves so at least he's happy.

Here's a toast to new beginnings in 2010. Good luck to Chappers, and everybody else.

Brain on X'mas break

After a long weekend (took 2 days off), I woke up super late for work. When I got to the bus stop I realised I forgot to bring my ezlink card. Went back to get it. Might as well make it an hour late. Yes.. When I got to work I realised I forgot my wallet. Yes... And in my wallet is my access card for getting into the office. I could ring the bell and wait for somebody to open the door but I felt bad when I want to go to the loo because somebody has to open the door for me again. And I had to borrow some money for lunch. Sigh... Oh well. Things could be worse.

Merry Christmas!

Countdown to Christmas

I've been wanting to listen to Christmas songs since late September. Ha.. ScottMills on Radio1 kept teasing with snippets of Christmas songs because co-host Chappersthegrinch wouldn't let him play. =P

I just started playing Christmas songs. I thought it would make me happy because I like the Christmasy atmosphere but the oldies and instrumental ones just made me miss playing Christmas songs in my school bands.. Boo.. Sad.

Hopefully by this Christmas I will get what I want and it would be a happy one.

26 days to Christmas

Alarm clocks from hell

Our Puzzle Alarm Clock is reminiscent of the popular 1970s IQ test games which required you to put different shaped pieces into their matching holes. When the alarm goes off, the pieces go flying! Quickly assemble the puzzle by matching the colors and shapes to turn the alarm off.

Our Puzzle Alarm Clock will continue to sound until all three pieces are put back into their matching holes ensuring that your butt is awake and will not fall back asleep!

Requires 3 AA batteries (not included.) Measures 7" wide x 6" deep.

The Laser Target alarm clock is designed to get your eyes open in the morning! When the alarm sounds, spring into action by shooting the bulls eye with your laser! When you finally hit the target, the alarm will turn off and you will be wide awake to start your day.

The laser gun requires 3 LR44 batteries (included) and the clock requires 3 AA batteries (not included.)

The Laser Target Alarm Clock measures 4" wide by 7" tall.

A rather friendly recruiter

This afternoon I received a call (yet another) from a recruiter for one of the many, many financial institutions here. Usually they make their pitch, ask if I'm interested in an interview, whether I currently have a job, etc. I was in a good mood because I was having a "mandatory break" (ha) and I was in a room all by myself. I must have sounded a lot less annoyed than the other people he had to call because he asked where/what my job was and said I sound happy with it. I just went, uh..laughed and gave a patronising "yes". I'm not extremely disgruntled but it's not the best job in the world.

1 for me, 0 for the hag

This morning I was running a little late for work but I needed to buy breakfast at this little shop at the MRT station. I already knew what I wanted so I had the exact amount in my hands. A little dismayed at seeing a few people in the shop already. It's a really small place so 4 people is enough to make it crowded.

There was an old auntie, all vain and dressed up, holding some food and looking at the other stuff. I observed for a second and figured she's probably been looking at it for some time and won't be done soon. So I said "excuse me", because unlike her, my mind was made up and I just needed a second to grab the item and pay up. This bitch didn't budge and totally ignored me so I just reached over to take it. Upon which she turned around to join the queue because she didn't want me to pay before her. Which is flipping irritating enough because I would take less than FIVE SECONDS to drop the coins into the shop-owner's hands. The shop-owner is a very nice man and understands that many people are rushing to catch the train so usually is very quick. This stupid old hag had more things than me, did not have the exact change, obviously wasn't in a hurry, and yet didn't want to let me have that few seconds. How considerate. Stupid woman, you are the reason why we don't have a gracious society here.

And that's not the end. She's not obliged to help me in any way. I understand that. That's fine. That last paragraph didn't sound like I was fine with it. Ha.. But it was okay still.

So I stood behind her to wait to pay and this girl came in and wanted to buy some food. (Of course.) It's a small shop so she said "excuse me" so she can reach the food. I stepped aside BECAUSE I'M CONSIDERATE LIKE THAT. That ignorant hag thought I was trying to get closer to the shop-owner to pay before her. As if I'm as rude as her. She muttered in mandarin, "some people are so like that." "有些人就是这样" Complete with a disgusted tsk look on her face, like she's a bully victim! I'm so NOT going to let that slide. FYI, my normal voice isn't loud at all so I wasn't screaming at her. I said that girl said excuse me so I was giving her way, OK? “她说excuse me, 我是在让位 OK?" In a very irritated tone that propably suggested 白痴 at the end. I should have added "unlike YOU" because she completely ignored me when I said excuse me. She just kept quiet and kept her eyes in front. She might have looked slightly scared. Ha.. I think the shop-owner was a bit scared actually. Haha.. When he handed her her change he accidentally dropped a coin. I just gave him my money, checked that he checked the amount and left, before he could help her pick it up. HA!

Can I just clarify that I respect the elderly. I always give up my seat for the elderly and give them a smile. If they are smoking, I do not diao them like I do for smokers of other ages. But to me, elderly is really old. Old hags do not count. Chee ko pehs also do not count. This old hag looked like she thinks she's very posh, judging by the way she acted and dressed. I cannot stand this kind of delusional people.

Thank You for Smoking

Because we're having problems of over-population? Ok, not very sure about that but I think less people in the world would be better. Especially no smokers to pollute our air.

Haven't seen the movie, just started reading the book. I wonder if smokers read/watch it. I've only just read the prologue, not very sure I know what the book is about.

"I'm certain that our next ... penalist," ths speaker hesitated, the word just too neutral to describe a man who earned his living by killing 1,200 human beings a day. Twelve hundred people-two jumbo jet planeloads a day of men, women, and children. Yes, innocent children, denied their bright futures, those happy moments of scoring the winning touchdowns, of high school and college graduations, marriage, parenthood, professional fulfillment, breakthroughs in engineering, medicine, economics, who knows how many Nobel Prize winners? Lambs, slaughtered by Nicholas Naylor and the tobacco industry fiends he so slickly represented. More than 400,000 a year! And approaching the half-million mark. Genocide, that's what it was, enough to make you weep, if you had a heart, the thought of somany of these ... victims, their lives stubbed out upon the ashtray of corporate greed by this tall, trim, nicely tailored forty-year-old yuppie executioner ...

The book was written in 1994, and the numbers only refer to Americans. I hate smokers, and I especially hate smokers who are parents and smoke with their children by their sides. 1,200 people, according to the book, die a day, including children. These are not children who smoke. They are killed by second-hand smoke. Second-hand smoke from their parents. What kind of parents kill their own children? Hello? If smokers don't care about the people in the street who inhale their second-hand smoke and die, fine. All that tobacco must have affected their brain capabilities if they can't see how selfish they are.

In the prologue, the chief spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies related the story of Muran the Fourth, the Turkish sultan who outlawed smoking and would disguise himself and pretend to have a nicotine fit, begging people to sell him tobacco. If anybody give him something to smoke, Murad would behead him on the spot and leave the body there to rot.

"Myself, I'd like to think that we as a nation have progressed beyond the days of summary executions for the crime of pursuing our own definition of happiness."

Not when your happiness is built on innocent people's misery, you piece of shit. Murad should have executed people who smoke and not people who possessed tobacco. Although, drug traffickers should be punished more harshly than drug abusers. But you can't really compare drugs with tobacco because drugs don't harm innocent bystanders. If smokers only smoke in enclosed spaces, I really don't care if they want to kill themselves. I am entirely not against suicide. My problem is only with selfish bastards.

Relative

I've been using a very small laptop, with a small mouse, at work. I think it's a netbook but they tell me it's a laptop. Ahem. Anyway, when I use my laptop now it feels bigger. A little not used to my normal sized mouse. Ha.. They put me in a room by myself so I don't interact much with my colleagues. I'm just glad I haven't had to have lunch alone yet. Ha.. I don't really mind eating alone anyway. Still have some podcasts to listen to.

Oh, don't be mistaken that it's like I have my own office because people go in and out of the room I'm in. But I like the privacy. Would be better if the netbook I'm using isn't slower than a snail. I tried playing songs on it and they were played in slower speed. Oh well.

Have been surviving on about 6 hours of sleep everyday now and today I feel the least dead. Ha.. I was quite dazed on the first day. Ok, TV beckons!
